Coinciding with the inaugural lecture for the academic year 2012-2013 by Xavier Prats-Monné, the UOC Library has produced this dossier of resources on his career. Prats-Monné has in-depth knowledge of education and employment in Europe. He has been Deputy-Director General of the Directorate-General for Education and Culture since 2011. One of his main briefs is to modernise the educational and training systems, and mobility policies such as the Erasmus programme. Between 2007 and 2011 he was EC Director for Employment Policy, Europe 2020 Strategy and International Relations in the Field of Employment, where he established common European principles for flexicurity, among other activities.

Since 2011, Xavier Prats Monné has been the Deputy Director-General for Education and Culture at the European Commission, the executive branch of the European Union. The main policy areas under his responsibility are the modernisation of European education and training systems; mobility policies and programmes, including Erasmus for students, lifelong learning; the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT); and international relations in the field of education, culture and youth.
