Este es el plan docente de la asignatura. Advanced Speaking and Writing Skills in English (Tècniques d'expressió oral i escrita [Llengua B] / Técnicas de expresión oral y escrita [Lengua B]) is designed to further reinforce students' knowledge and usage of spoken and written English required for training in the fields of translation, interpreting and applied languages, combining theoretical and practical aspects with social and cultural topics of current interest with a view to the perfecting of students' oral and written expression, prioritizing lexical precision, syntax, pronunciation and optimizing effectiveness in communication.

This obligatory subject amounts to 6 credits for the degree in Translation, Interpreting and Applied Languages. It is part of the B-language group of interdisciplinary studies for the degree.

This subject enhances the depth and scope of students' written and oral skills to meet the needs of the professional practice of interlinguistic and intercultural communication where language skills, cultural understanding, collaborative teamwork and digital networking tools ensure successfull outcomes in institutional, business or educational settings.

This subject requires collaborative teamwork, forum discussion, writing, peer-revision, listening, self-recording of reading aloud and readings and exercises in pronunciation and phonetics.

OBJECTIVES:

Speaking: Students will practice reading aloud and record themselves reading authentic contemporary texts of interest, putting into practice the theoretical basis underlying English phonetics and phonology; follow-up with error correction.

Listening/Reading: Students will listen to and read authentic contemporary English texts available to them in native-English recordings that will serve as practical models of correct English-language pronunciation and intonation.

Writing: Students will produce and peer-correct several written texts of various types in correct English at the advanced level.

Phonetics and phonology: Students will gain an advanced-level understanding of English phonetics and phonology and its variations.

Cultural understanding: Students will acquire greater breadth and depth of scope in cultural issues of English-speaking societies, including enhanced perspective of ethnic diversity and gender.

El proceso de evaluación se fundamenta en el trabajo personal del estudiante y presupone la autenticidad de la autoría y la originalidad de los ejercicios realizados.

La falta de autenticidad en la autoría o de originalidad de las pruebas de evaluación; la copia o el plagio; el intento fraudulento de obtener un resultado académico mejor; la colaboración, el encubrimiento o el favorecimiento de la copia, o la utilización de material o dispositivos no autorizados durante la evaluación, entre otras, son conductas irregulares que pueden tener consecuencias académicas y disciplinarias graves.

Por un lado, si se detecta alguna de estas conductas irregulares, puede comportar el suspenso (D/0) en las actividades evaluables que se definan en el plan docente -incluidas las pruebas finales- o en la calificación final de la asignatura, ya sea porque se han utilizado materiales o dispositivos no autorizados durante las pruebas, como redes sociales o buscadores de información en internet, porque se han copiado fragmentos de texto de una fuente externa (internet, apuntes, libros, artículos, trabajos o pruebas de otros estudiantes, etc.) sin la correspondiente citación, o porque se ha practicado cualquier otra conducta irregular.

Por el otro, y de acuerdo con las normativas académicas, las conductas irregulares en la evaluación, además de comportar el suspenso de la asignatura, pueden dar lugar a la incoación de un procedimiento disciplinario y a la aplicación, si procede, de la sanción que corresponda.

Esta asignatura sólo se puede superar a partir de la evaluación continua (EC), cuya nota final se cruza con la calificación de una prueba de síntesis (PS). Es necesario realizar las actividades prácticas obligatorias (Pr) cuya nota se cruza con la nota de evaluación continua.El resultado de este cruce entre la EC y la Pr se cruza a su vez con la nota de la PS para obtener la nota final de la asignatura. Para hacer la PS es necesario haber superado la EC. La fórmula de acreditación de la asignatura es la siguiente: (EC+Pr) + PS
