University Campus of Excellence
The UPF - Icària International Campus project coordinated by Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) together with the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC) as an associate university, obtained recognition as an International Campus of Excellence (ICE) 2010 from the Spanish Ministry of Education.
This project, which forms part of the UPF’s 25-year strategy, includes twenty-two specific activities that look to promote internationalisation, increase excellence and aid university cooperation.
The UOC will offer this project the expertise and knowledge that it has accumulated over fifteen years offering online education. Thus, as part of the Icària project, the UOC will provide bimodal education (face-to-face and virtual), a trend that is taking off internationally.
The UPF and the UOC already have experience of working together, highlights include the master’s degree for secondary school teachers.
The Campus of Excellence programme
The International Campus of Excellence programme is a call from the Spanish Ministry of Education that aims to position the Spanish universities of excellence among the best in Europe by 2015 and promote their international standing. The nine members of the international jury have named 8 of the twenty-two finalists as International Campuses of Excellence.
